History

On August 18, 1947, at the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Conclave held in Los Angeles, the National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was formally recognized as an auxiliary. The Silhouette organization is comprised of Wives and widows of the fraternity members.

Los Angeles Silhouette Barbara Mounts served on the 1st Executive Board of the National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc as the secretary-treasurer and the 1st Los Angeles Chapter President. Silhouette Mounts was re-elected to serve a second consecutive term at the 39th Grand Conclave in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Los Angeles Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc has a remarkable history of partnership with the Men of the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter in hosting Kappa’s and their Silhouettes from all parts of the country at the 37th, 47th, and 69th Grand Chapter Conclave Meetings setting the gold standard for future National Silhouette Chapters to follow.

 In 1980, the Silhouettes were granted a seat on the Board of Directors of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation. On September 11, 1987, Policy Statement No. 87-12 was entered into the records of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., recognizing the Silhouettes as an affiliate whose purpose is to provide support and assistance for the activities of the Fraternity at the Grand Chapter, Province and Local levels.

The Los Angeles Silhouettes celebrated 75 years of services in 2022.

The first Silhouette President was Barbara Mounds from 1947-1953.
